This late-in-life offering from Ken Nordine continues his lifelong mastery of the genre he created, Word Jazz. Gifted with That Voice, he also has the agile & quirkily searching mind to give That Voice plenty to say ... thought excursions & deceptively simple poems that take utterly unexpected twists. I know that some reviewers find those latter pieces not as successful—"like molecules moving, looking for clout" is one phrase cited as clumsy, for instance—but to me, this works beautifully, conjuring new ways of using words & describing things. It's all a matter of personal taste & preference, of course.Still, for this longtime fan of Word Jazz, this is as good as anything Ken Nordine did in his long career of creativity with the English language. With musical backing that enhances but never overpowers the words, this is a charming & engaging album. one that takes the listener into a timeless, eternally hip dimension & also invites new ways of hearing & experiencing ideas.
